1 January 2007

The temperature was in the mid-20s when I took this picture yesterday morning. Our winter has been truly pathetic with temperatures MUCH warmer and milder than usual. And, when I say "than usual" I also mean "than wanted". It's hard to do outside winter activities when the snow layer is so thin and what little snow there is is often glaze ice! But, I know we're not the only ones suffering an odd year . . . but I think I'd rather have Colorado's blizzards than this non-existent boredom of a winter!

The day before I took this picture (New Year's Eve), it was raining! Full-on raining. Then, fortunately, the temperatures dropped and the rain turned to a wet snow which did beautifully coat every single pine needle and tiniest tree branch . . . creating a gorgeous scene for the New Year. Yesterday, January 4th, we had our second full-on-winter-rain (previously UNHEARD of in this neck of the woods), and, last night, the temperature didn't even drop below freezing. So, the snow is wet and mushy and yucky. And, of course, the hard-packed yard areas seem more like skating rinks than anything. Blech!
